The Road To DFAT

MPIRO is excited to announce ‘The Road to DFAT: In Conversation with Meena Johnson’. In this special Wednesday Zoom session, we will be sitting down with current DFAT Graduate Policy Officer and The University of Melbourne alumna, Meena Johnson. We will be discussing her path into the DFAT Graduate Program, application tips, and what life is like in the coveted program.

Ms Johnson graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Master of International Relations (First Class Honours) in 2017, and Bachelor of Science (Anatomy) along with a Diploma in Languages (Chinese) in 2015. In 2011 and 2014, respectively, she participated in an exchange program at Fudan University and Peking University in China studying Chinese language.
Ms Johnson has completed two internships with Austrade.
 
In 2017, she interned with the China Hub team in Melbourne (Australia). In 2015, she interned with the Mining and Technology team (METS) in Shanghai (China). In 2015, Ms Johnson also interned with AustCham Beijing in Beijing (China). Prior to joining DFAT, Ms Johnson was employed at P&G Australia as a Corporate Communications Manager in Sydney (Australia).

Ms Johnson commenced the 2019 DFAT graduate program as a Graduate Policy Officer in Canberra (Australia). Her rotations have included a rotation on the trade desk, DFAT’s Women in Leadership desk and China bilateral desk with stints in the Consular and Communications desks due to Covid-19. She is also a fluent Mandarin speaker.
